Saturday February 22 – Tuesday, February 25

Paraty, a 370-year old town, is the jewel of the Costa Verde coastline. Half-way between Rio and Sao Paulo, it is one of Brazil’s most popular towns. It offers world-famous beaches, a unique 33-block cobble-stoned car-free historic zone, an adjacent Rain Forest accessible by jeep tour, and world-famous cachaca factories – not to mention numerous islands beckoning.

Monday – 9:30 am – Depart via private van from Rio de Janeiro (pick up from three hotels: Atlantis Copacabana, Orla Rio, and Sofitel Copacabana.

We’ll get an early start for our 4-hour tripo to Paraty. If the group wishes, we can stop in Petropolis, the first capital of Brazil, where we’ll visit the Museu Imperial de Petropolis. Situated in the city’s historic center, it is housed in the former palace of the emperor Dom Pedro II (1831-1889). The museum includes the palace itself and a temporary exhibition hall dedicated to contemporary art. It is one of the most visited museums in the country.

We’ll arrive in Paraty in time to relax by the pool, and then head out for group dinner and a night stroll through Paraty’s historic center, always abuzz with activity and music.

Tuesday: A trip to Paraty would not be complete without a boat trip to one of the exotic nearby islands. Bring your bathing suit – we’ll be swimming off the boat – to be followed by a fantastic lunch of fresh caught fish at an on-the-beach restaurant! We’ll be back in time to explore more of Paraty, visit the art shops, and to enjoy another evening of music.

Wednesday: We’ll be organizing a short walking tour of Paraty, a uniquely rich history. And after that, you might then want to opt for a jeep trip to the Amazon jungle, a visit to the cachaca factory on the outskirts of town, or just hang at the pool and sip a capairinha.

Thursday: Van will depart late morning for Rio de Janeiro – time of departure to be coordinated with participants’ flight times from the airport.
